ECO-ART MEETS PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

ECO-EMBODIMENT PHOTOSHOOT

WHAT IT IS

A unique photography experience where we begin with an eco-art opening exercise, inviting nature to co-create with us and tuning into what you wish to express that day.

This isn't a typical posed portrait session; instead, we follow our intuition, moving through the environment with respect and curiosity. It's about capturing the natural forms and movements that emerge spontaneously, a playful exploration of going with the flow.

These sessions are a beautiful opportunity to connect with nature and yourself as an integral part of it, all while exploring your creativity. Through fine art photography, I aim to create keepsakes that celebrate this beautiful connection between you and the natural world.

THE PROCESS

We’ll first have a call to choose a suitable place that you feel a connection to, discuss our availability and answer any questions your have. I’ll ask if there’s any narrative or emotion you’re wanting to explore or express on the shoot and if so, how I can support you in that. But it’s not necessary and you can always change your mind on the day.

TIME & LOCATION

The location could be a beach, a specific grove of trees, a portion of a trail or even your backyard. The ideal time of day for the best light is early morning or late afternoon/early evening.

LEARN TO CO-CREATE WITH NATURE

ECO-ART LESSONS

WHAT IS ECO-ART?

Eco-art is any form of art co-created with nature. Many people associate it with earth art—outdoor pieces made from natural materials like rocks, leaves, and shells. While eco-art can take that form, it also extends to other mediums such as drawing, painting, poetry, and music. What defines eco-art isn’t the medium itself but the way it is practiced.

At its core, eco-art is about engaging with nature as a collaborator. It’s an ongoing dialogue with the natural world—asking, “What should we create together today?”

Eco-art practices offer tangible ways to ask this question and receive nature’s response.

THE LESSON

When you book a session, I’ll ask if there are any themes you’d like to explore and tailor an exercise just for you. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to offer suggestions.

We’ll meet at an outdoor location of your choice and go through the exercise together. These sessions are available in Sooke and the surrounding region.

Online lessons are also available through my Substack—check them out here.

WHY ECO-ART?

Most of us have been conditioned to see ourselves as separate from—and even superior to—nature. Centuries of colonialism have systematically severed many people from their ancestral ways of connecting with the land, normalizing a mindset of extraction over reciprocity. But our relationship with nature is essential—not just for our personal well-being, but for a sustainable future where we live in harmony with our planet rather than beyond its limits.

Eco-art is an invitation to reconnect, to remember our place within nature. No matter your age, heritage, or artistic skill level, it’s something every one of us can practice—a way back into belonging.

Meet nikkey

While documenting environmental issues, I repeatedly encountered our one-sided, often extractive relationship with nature as a fundamental problem. Seeking solutions, I delved into ecopsychology and unexpectedly discovered eco-art. I quickly fell in love with eco-art because it offers a path back to a reciprocal relationship with nature through creativity. As someone who has always used my camera to express and document beauty, merging eco-art practices with my passion for sharing and celebrating nature led me to develop the eco-embodiment photoshoot. I am certified in Eco-Art Therapy from Nature School Connect.
